Ryan is a native of Arizona, growing up in Wickenburg. As the son of an active volleyball player and coach, Ryan has been playing volleyball since birth :o) He earned a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from Arizona State University in May of 2011. While at ASU, Ryan began to play Beach Volleyball very competitively, earning a AAA Beach rating in Arizona and AA rating in California. He began coaching after graduating and has coached for Club One for the past 4 years. Though he has had success indoors, Ryan's passion lies in coaching and playing beach volleyball. He still plays semiprofessionally; qualifying for the EVP Pro Tour and playing his first professional tournament in July of 2014.
Ryan became the director of One Beach in 2014 and has been the lead coach of the program since then.
Outside of coaching and playing volleyball, Ryan works as a personal trainer, and spends all of his free time with his family (wife Kara and puppies) and friends. What he enjoys most about coaching is helping players use their own passion for the game to develop the important qualities that should be attained through sports: character, discipline, hard work, leadership and teamwork.
Michael grew up playing on the beaches of Florida and competed on several tours up and down the East Coast. After taking a break from competing to focus on family and studies, he has transitioned to coaching beach volleyball only and is excited to be part of an impactful culture at One Beach. Outside of playing beach volleyball Michael likes surfing, camping, family bike rides and good coffee. As a coach, his desire is to train players to be the best they can, while having fun in the process. Michael and his wife, Abby, live in Huntington Beach with their 4 children.
Kristal is an Arizona native, graduating from Marcos De Niza, where she lead her team to 2 State Championships and a Runner-up finish during her tenure. Kristal went on to play Collegiate Volleyball at Northern Arizona University for two years and then finished her indoor career at Arizona State University. She earned her degree in Sociology and then a Masters Degree in Education.
Kristal began playing beach volleyball professionally in 2004. She competed in every AVP qualifier during her rookie season and earned a ranking of #51. She also competed in the EVP and VAO (Volleyball Arizona Organization) where she won 90% of the tournaments, finishing in the top 4, and earning a #1 ranking overall.
From 2006-2012, Kristal instructed beach volleyball alongside US Olympic Gold Medalists, Carrie Walsh, Todd Rogers, and Phil Daulhausser. She brings this knowledge to her private and group training along with her extensive playing experience.
Outside of playing beach volleyball Kristal likes yoga, skateboarding, swimming in the ocean, working out, Harry Potter, and Disneyland. As a coach, her desire is to train players to be the best they can, while having fun in the process. Kristal and her husband Jason live in Chandler with their two dogs, Socks and Peanut. We are excited to have Kristal join our group of talented coaches at One Beach!
Sonnie has played volleyball since Jr High. The sport has allowed her to earn a college education and travel overseas to play semi-professionally. Upon return from France she coached indoor for some time before being enticed out into the sand. Now, she whole heartedly loves playing beach volleyball in the beautiful Arizona weather and doesn't know if she'll ever make it back into the gym.
Sonnie has been coaching with One Beach for the past 2 years and loves it! Her desire is to see the sport grow so many more will have the opportunity to play. Sonnie lives in Mesa with her husband Tommy, son Trip and daughter Sawyer.
Justin is a native Arizonan who has taken every opportunity to enjoy the year-round sunshine by playing beach volleyball almost daily! He was a 3-year Varsity volleyball player at Sandra Day O'Conner High School, but took to the sand after graduating, earning his AAA sand rating in Arizona.
Justin has been coaching with One Beach for the past 2 years. His coaching ideology emphasizes more than just volleyball; he tries to instill life skills within his players as well. Showing them that positive communication, hard work and passion can take you far in life.
Priscilla fell in love with the sport of volleyball at the age of nine watching her hometown college team, the Texas Longhorns. After playing club and school ball for seven years, she earned a scholarship to play at The University of Georgia as an outside hitter, starting all four years, becoming the SEC Freshman of the Year at the age of 17. She was a 4X 1st Team All-SEC selection from 1991-1994, 2X 1st Team All-America selection in 1993 and 1994, NCAA statistical leader for kills in a match in 1994, SEC Player of the year in 1994 and was inducted into The University of Georgia’s Circle of Honor in 2006.
She played on the USA National Extended A Team in 1994, World University Games Team in 1995 and enjoyed a bit of professional ball in Europe and on the beach before heading back to school to earn a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from Vanguard University. Over the past fifteen years, she has worked as a freelance writer and has been published both in print and online for FloVolleyball, Volleyball Magazine, The Art of Coaching Volleyball, Sweat RX, Gorgo Fitness Magazine, CrossFit Fury, The CrossFit Games and OPEX Fitness.
Priscilla holds her CrossFit L1 and mobility certifications and is USAV BCAP I certified. She is married, has two children and currently coaches high school beach and indoor volleyball at Millennium High School in Goodyear, AZ where she has coached the Tigers to two consecutive State Championship Runners-Up in beach volleyball. She is passionate about mindset training, personal development and coaching athletes to develop their full potential on and off the court.
Jenn was born in Germany, but came to the states a few years after, and was raised in Michigan. She fell in love with competitive sports at the age of 10. Specifically indoor volleyball and soccer, where she earned 1st-team All State honors in both Varsity sports, all four years of High School. Her last two seasons in High School Volleyball, she led her team to back to back State Championships, as their starting Libero. She also played Club Volleyball and Club Soccer, and earned bids to 3 consecutive National Championships in both sports.
After graduation, Jenn pursued indoor volleyball at St. Clair College. She helped them defend a National title as their starting Libero. She went on to play three more years at Oakland University as their starting Libero. It was after college that Jenn found her love for beach volleyball - competing in Michigan, Georgia and Florida beach tournaments.
Since moving to AZ, Jenn has shifted her coaching and competitive focus to beach volleyball. She is loving the transition from the hard court to the sun and sand. She has been with One Beach since 2015, and is excited to share the love and knowledge she has for the game, while encouraging and growing it in young aspiring athletes.
Outside of coaching, you will find Jenn training and competing in the sand as often as she can. She is in love with all that AZ has to offer, and takes Kapone (her Siberian Husky) exploring, hiking and swimming everywhere she goes.
Jeff is an icon in beach volleyball throughout Arizona. He is responsible for making the beach game more popular through his promotional prowess - if it's in the sand it has to be best! He has trained athletes who have played on the international beach tour (FIVB) ans well as national beach tours (AVP, NVL & EVP). Jeff doen't like to toot his own horn, but he was instrumental in starting youth beach training in Arizona as the One Beach director when we began in 2010.
Liv grew up in Tucson, AZ and played indoor through college, graduating from Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, CA. She moved back to Arizona and transitioned to sand volleyball to stay ingaged in the game and have fun. Liv also coached Jr. High, High School and Club indoor teams over the next 10 years. After taking a short break from coaching to focus on her growing family, she has transitioned to coaching beach volleyball only and is excited to be part of the competitive culture at One Beach.
Bri is a native to Arizona and full time student at Arizona State University. She grew up in a volleyball family and has been playing since she was 8 yrs old. She plays regularly in the sand, winning her share of tournaments. Bri is starting her 3rd season as a training group coach for One Beach and loving every minute!
Kara comes from a background of sports and competition. She competed in cross country, track, and swimming in high school. After attending ASU on an academic scholarship Kara needed an outlet for her competitive nature. This is when she was first introduced to beach volleyball.
Kara has competed in many tournaments and achieved an A rating in California. She has been coaching with One Beach since 2015. Kara brings to the table a background in coaching a wide range of ages from 5-18. She also has the same spirit and vision of growing the game that is Beach volleyball.
Kara is from Phoenix, Arizona and a graduate of Arcadia High School. She is a redshirt Sophomore on the ASU's Beach Volleyball team and played in the 2's position for the Sun Devil's this past season. Kara started playing Beach volleyball the summer of her junior year in high school and was one of the first to play on her high school team at Arcadia. She is new to coaching, but has so much love for the game she can't wait to share it with other aspiring young athletes! Kara will be entering her junior year at Barrett, The Honors College at ASU studying Kinesiology.
Mia is a senior at Arizona State University studying both Criminology and Criminal Justice and Communication. This is her second year playing on the ASU Beach Volleyball program and this year she is competing at the number 4 position.
Mia has been with Club One since the beginning as a player, and has been coaching for almost 4 years now. She has coached both girls and boys indoor and has coached various ages for girls with the One Beach training groups.
Kat returns to the Phoenix metro area after a successful collegiate career of both Indoor and Beach volleyball. Her last Beach season was at the University of Arizona, playing in the number 2 spot for the Wildcats and being selected to the NCAA All-Tournament team as well as the Pac 12 All-Conference Second Team with her partner!
Kat continues to compete in the sand while preparing for a career as a Physical Therapist.
Gil's passion for volleyball dates back to his days playing indoor and beach in Florida. Since 2003 in Arizona, Gil has coached all club age groups as either an assistant or head coach (presently with Club One) while concurrently coaching high school girls at the freshmen, JV (including boys) and Varsity levels.
Gil joined the One Beach staff in 2014, and recently committed to a higher standard of coaching beach volleyball by becoming Beach CAP I certified. He is looking forward to continuing to share his knowledge and experience in a fun atmosphere, but most of all Gil hopes to inspire the next generation of athletes to develop a lifelong passion for the sport of volleyball!
Heather grew up in Scottsdale and began her volleyball experience as an indoor player. She played on scholarship for Glendale Community College and then transferred to New Mexico State to finish her playing. After college, she continued playing indoor volleyball for USAV and coaching indoor Club teams.
In 2001 she transitioned to playing beach volleyball excusively. In 2004 she began playing in the AVP, CBVA, and a few EVP’s events. In 2009 she gained her AAA ranking in San Diego. After many years coaching indoor, Heather has decided to transition to coaching beach volleyball full time and is excited to be a part of the One Beach staff.
Aimee has over 10 years of volleyball coaching experience in both indoor and beach volleyball. She started coaching in California and coached all ages from 9-18. She was head coach for several high schools in San Diego and was the Assistant Coach for Southwestern Community College as well as the Beach Volleyball Instructor.
An all state swimmer in high school, she did not pick up a volleyball until after she finished college. Introduced to volleyball on the beaches of Chicago, Aimee moved to California to train and play with the some of the best players in the country. She competed in local beach tournaments earning her AA (CBVA) rating prior to the birth of her daughter and competed in AVP Qualifiers.
Leaving California, she moved to Texas where she built a 7 court sand facility called Austin Beach Volleyball Club running tournaments, leagues and giving lessons.
After moving to Phoenix, she earned her AAA sand rating (AZVBA) in 2011 and continues to play and coach when she can usually coaching a few teams out in California each summer.
Aimee lives in Laveen with her husband Jason and her daughter Jayelin. When she isn’t cheering (and sometimes coaching) her daughter in volleyball tournaments, you can find her at a local CrossFit gym or playing beach at her backyard court.
Jackie has been coaching with us since 2014. She is the Head Varsity Indoor and Head Beach Volleyball coach at Arcadia High School. Jackie served as the Director of Operations and Assistant Beach coach for the Arizona State University volleyball program from 2013-2016. She has been coaching volleyball for over 14 years - with 14 years of club experience, 9 years at the high school level and 3 years of collegiate experience.
During her short time at Arcadia High School, Jackie has helped the Titans earn back to back state play-off appearances in Indoor as well as their first ever play-off appearance in Beach Team and Pairs competition.
In 2008, Jackie graduated Summa Cum Laude from ASU with a BAE in secondary education. In 2015, she earned her Master's Degree at ASU in Higher and Post-Secondary Education with Summa Cum Laude honors as well. Jackie and her husband Mark have a beautiful daughter together.
Deb has over 15 years of volleyball experience culminating in a trip to the 1996 Olympics to represent the USA on their first Beach Volleyball team. She started her career playing club volleyball in Minneapolis, Minn. After club competition she competed as a student-athlete at University of Alaska-Anchorage.
Deb moved back to Minnesota after graduating in 1984 and played in the Major League Volleyball, a professional indoor league that lasted three years. After her indoor career, she made her way to the beaches of California where she played 10 years on the WPVA (Women’s Professional Volleyball Association). It was here that she honed her skills to become an Olympic contender.
In 1996, Deb and her partner Gail Castro earned the last spot on the 1996 Olympic Beach Volleyball team where they placed 9th in the world. This was the first year for beach volleyball in the Olympics.
Deb works part time, and resides in Gilbert, Ariz. with her husband and two children.
